Cuomo Announces Region-by-Region, Sector-by-Sector Economic Reopening
/Dealers Must Continue Best Practices for Remote Vehicle Sales
On Monday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo discussed a phased approach to reopening the state's economy. Before restarting a particular region's economy, the state will analyze the area's COVID-19 infection rate, as well as its healthcare capacity. Once infection rates drop, and hospitals have enough beds, a regional economy can start opening certain types of business, such as manufacturing, construction, and retail with curbside pickup service. The entire retail sector, including on-site sales at dealerships, would resume in the next phase.
The phased reopening could begin as early as May 15th in certain regions Upstate. However, the Greater New York region, with a higher infection rate, is not expected to reopen until sometime later.
Dealers must continue to follow the Governor's Executive Order to only sell cars remotely and electronically. Showrooms are not to be open to the public, vehicle sales are not permitted to be done in person, and dealers are not allowed to arrange an appointment for consumers to come into the dealership to purchase a vehicle.
GNYADA and the state's other dealer associations submitted a joint reopening plan last week outlining their approach to for dealerships' on-site sales operations. The Association will keep you posted on the status of that request.
GNYADA has developed the following guidelines to help dealers comply with The Governor's Executive orders:
Dealers should be very attentive to these guidelines and follow best practices to keep employees, customers, and others safe and avoid any violations from enforcement agencies.
