GNYADA Discusses Five-Day Rule with DMV
/As a follow up to the recent DMV Quarterly meeting, DMV reached out to GNYADA to discuss our proposal to double the number of days dealers have to submit a vehicle’s registration application. Presently, dealers are required to submit applications for registration, when a temporary certificate of registration (TCR) has been issued, to the DMV within five days of issuance.
The 5-day rule has historically proven onerous for dealers. It has long been the number 1 violation dealers are cited for. And, now that dealers are coping with staff shortages due to COVID, the issue has become more acute.
GNYADA is asking the commissioner to extend the amount of days within which a dealer can comply with the VTL. Providing dealers more time to process registration application paperwork will greatly reduce the burden on all dealerships and their staff.
DMV also told GNYADA that dealers can satisfy the Five-Day Rule by submitting their paperwork to DMV-DIRECT because it is one of the agency’s direct link partners.
