Lower-Hudson, Long Island Approach Phase Two - NYC Reaches Phase One Next Week
/Next week, unless key COVID-19 health metrics change, dealers in the Lower-Hudson Region and on Long Island will move beyond a “doors-closed, appointment-only” approach to selling cars. And on Monday, New York City will reach its long-awaited moment to begin restarting its economy, by moving into Phase 1.
The Lower-Hudson Region, which includes Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Orange Counties, will reach Phase 2 on Tuesday. Both Nassau and Suffolk Counties on Long Island will do so on Wednesday.
As one of the major global pandemic hotspots, the five boroughs of NYC have had a longer path to normalcy in recent months. On Monday, New York City will finally begin its reopening process by entering Phase 1. It will have to wait at least until Monday, June 22nd, before the State eases restrictions on City dealers to the same degree as the Lower-Hudson and Long Island Regions. City dealers are still permitted to do sales in person but must do so by appointment only.
Over the last two weeks, these regions have seen a steady decline in COVID-19 cases and have maintained relatively high hospital capacity and declining COVID-related deaths and hospitalizations. These are three criteria to meet to move into phase 1 and 2.
GNYADA is keeping a close eye on these region’s public health metrics. In light of recent protests surrounding the murder of George Floyd, the State is concerned infection rates could climb and reverse the State’s progress.
