Cuomo Announces New Dealership Protocols

Metro NY Status Remains Unchanged as Progress Continues

At his daily press conference today, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that most of the Upstate Regions had entered phase 2 of the state’s reopening plan. These regions have met all seven-health metrics. The Governor indicated that the New York City Region might begin Phase I reopening as soon as Monday, June 8th. This development means that in a little over one week, the City will join Long Island and the Mid-Hudson regions in allowing businesses, such as curbside retail operations, construction, and manufacturing, to resume under specific guidelines.

Today’s news will not change the way dealers presently operate and they will continue to be listed as an essential business. Dealers can continue selling vehicles by appointment or remotely.

Whether a business is in a Phase 1 or Phase 2 region, they are required to develop a Safety Plan. The plan will require specific measures addressing Physical Distancing, Personal Hygiene, Cleaning, Screening, and Personal Protection Equipment.

All businesses in regions that have entered Phase 2 must follow a series of industry-specific guidelines when they reopen. When the Metro NY regions enter Phase 2, dealers will have to abide by these guidelines as well. The safety guidelines closely match a list GNYADA and other dealer associations suggested to the state at the end of April. .

To help dealers adhere to the new guidelines, early next week, GNYADA will release a reopening plan template that dealers must complete and keep on-hand at all times.
