Two Downstate Regions Will Reopen

The Governor Announced today that two more regions of New York State are re-opening this week.

While new car dealers have been allowed for several weeks to service and sell cars (by appointment), today’s announcement reopens other industries who were under the State Pause restrictions. The Mid-Hudson Region will see manufacturing, construction, and curbside retail restart today, while Long Island will restart tomorrow. These regions include Nassau, Suffolk, Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster and Westchester Counties.

New York City is not yet ready to re-open. It still must increase its hospital and ICU beds above 30%. Currently, both metrics hover around 27%.

Regions around the State can begin a phased re-opening by hitting seven public health metrics that gauge the area’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. If a region keeps all of its metrics in line during Phase 1, the region can progress into Phase 2.
