What to do if an Employee Tests Positive or Was Exposed to COVID-19
/One of the common questions we receive at the Association is what to do when an Employee tests positive for COVID-19.
GNYADA has put together step-by-step instructions to provide guidance to dealers when one or more employees tests positive, becomes symptomatic, and/or are exposed to COVID-19.
When an Employee Tests Positive for COVID-19 you should:
Deny them access to your facility,
Direct them to isolate for 10 days,
Inform staff that a co-worker has tested positive for COVID-19 (see sample letter to employees on website)
Clean and disinfect the employee’s workspace
When an Employee Becomes Symptomatic While at Your Facility you should:
Send them home,
Tell them to seek medical attention and where they can obtain a COVID-19 test,
If the test is negative, the employee should stay home until feeling better,
If the test is positive, direct them to isolate for 10 days, and
Clean and disinfect the employee’s workspace.
When an Employee is Exposed to a Person with COVID-19:
Exposure to Person with COVID-19 and Employee is NOT symptomatic*
Return to work following 14-day quarantine
Exposure to Person with COVID-19 and Employee IS experiencing symptoms
Return to work following 10 days of isolation from onset of symptoms
Employee Returns to NYS From Travel Outside the Tri-State Area *
Return to work after 14 days of quarantine OR take a COVID test 72 hours before arriving in New York AND quarantine for 3 days from arrival and take a COVID test on the 4th day. Quarantine expires upon receipt of the second negative test result.
*Under certain circumstances an employee may be deemed an essential worker and can return to work sooner than the quarantine or isolation period. Please contact the Association for information on this special designation.
